Plant Blindness

Plant blindness is “the literal ignorance of plants by human beings and their spontaneous preference for animal life.” (Wandersee and Schussler) In this project, I tried to use photographs to depict this widespread “disease”.  Generally, a leaf is much smaller than a people, even most of the time, leaf is smaller than people’s hand. By projecting the close-up photo of the leaf on people, I tried to reverse the relationship of size between a leaf and a people. At the same time, the leaf become the background of this people, which is respond to one of the symptoms of plant blindness: [people] thinking plants are simply the background for human life.
